Fraser Cook Interview - Electrical Power Transmission and Distribution

Fraser Cook is the Principal Engineer for Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Qualitrol-DMS in the United Kingdom. Qualitrol-DMS supply condition monitoring systems and services for the electrical power transmission and distribution industry. Qualitrol-DMS is the world leader in Partial Discharge (PD) monitoring for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS). Mr. Cook studied Artificial Intelligence while receiving his Masters degree in Cognitive Science from Division of Informatics, University of Edinburgh.

Mr. Cook’s role is to develop expert systems for automatic pattern recognition, condition monitoring and fault diagnosis in high voltage power systems including: Transformers and Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS). In addition to system development he also provides technical reports and expert analysis to industry cliental.

Mike Murphy Interview - Predicting Sport Injuries

Mike Murphy is a consultant with M P Murphy & Associates Pty Ltd that focuses on Information Technology and Risk Management with clients including the government, banking & finance, insurance companies and most recently major football and soccer sporting clubs in Australia and United Kingdom. Mr. Murphy has a B.S. in Computer Science & Mathematics from the University of New South Wales and Masters degree in Management Science.

Mr. Murphy has been using NeuroSolutions (Consultants) along with the Custom Solution Wizard and OptiGen Library (formally Genetic Server) for over 4-years. He also attended our Neural Network Course in Orlando, FL in the spring of 2007. Paul Roebber Interview - Snow Fall Prediction

Paul Roebber is a professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee whose research focuses on the improvement of weather forecasting systems. Mr. Roebber has his Doctorate in Atmospheric Science from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec Canada.

Mr. Roebber has been using NeuroSolutions along with the Custom Solution Wizard and Source Code Library for the past 8-years. Using NeuroSolutions, Mr. Roebber developed a snow density system that is currently employed by the National Weather Service to assist in the prediction of snow fall depths. Mr Roebber's system uses several different types of neural network architectures including the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Multilayer Perceptron (One and Two Hidden Layer) to complete his ensemble of 10 artificial neural networks.

Cameron Cooper Interview - Enhancing Education for Future Generations

Cameron Cooper has been a instructor at Fort Lewis College in Southwestern Colorado for 4-years teaching developmental mathematics and computer science and also serves as an enrollment analyst. Mr. Cooper has an extensive educational background with a Bachelors in Mathematics from Occidental College, a Masters in Information Networking from Carnegie Mellon University, a Masters in Communications from Northwestern University and a Masters in Education from Harvard University. Mr. Cooper is a doctoral candidate in Applied Management & Decision Sciences at Walden University.

Mr. Cooper has been using NeuroSolutions and NeuroSolutions for Excel for the past 2-years and has attended NeuroDimension's Neural Network Course. AT-RISK identifies "at risk" students for Developmental Mathematic courses, which have an average nationwide failure rates between 40% and 50% . AT-RISK uses various input factors such as learning styles, responses to questions about attitudes & beliefs regarding mathematics, high school GPA and standardized test scores to determine whether the student should take the support class designed around AT-RISK. The support class is 1-hour per week and it addresses frustration tolerance, test anxiety and much more. This class has increased the overall student success rate by 8% in the first semester compared to the previous year.

Mats Rosengren Interview - Satellite Imagery

Mats Rosengren has been working in the remote sensing field for 25-years and has a Degree in Physical Engineering. METRIA Miljoanalys is a consulting group in Sweden that has carried out work for the National Board of Forestry, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Agency for Fishery along with many more governmental agencies that deal with the environment.

Mr. Rosengren has been using NeuroSolutions and NeuroSolutions for Excel for the past 6 years and has also attended one of our Neural Network Courses in Orlando, Florida. Using remote sensing satellite imagery, multi-spectral sensor data is used for applications to map forest types or changes in a forest or to extract statistical information from the images together with available maps. In the case of mapping of forest types and changes, the information is essential for forestry companies in order to keep their databases up-to-date for planning and forest management. In addition, the imagery has been used to do wall-to-wall mapping of land use and vegetation from space as well as measuring the depth in the sea water, mapping along the coastlines and measuring the vegetation at the bottom of the sea.

Gary Howorth Interview - Shaping the Oil and Gas Industry with NeuroSolutions

Gary Howorth has been working in the oil and gas industry for 25-years and has a Degree in Electronic Engineering specializing in digital control theory and a MBA. Mr. Howorth has worked for several key corporations in the industry including BP, Arthur Andersen (Petroleum Services Group), PA Consulting and currently PFC Energy performing quantitative analysis on new and obscure modeling.

Mr. Howorth has been using NeuroSolutions, NeuroSolutions for Excel and the Custom Solutions Wizard for the past 2 years and originally started off using the Interactive Book. But he has been using neural net and adaptive technology for around 10 years. Teboho Nyareli Interview - Helping to Save Lives in the Mining Industry

Teboho Nyareli has worked at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa for 3-years as a research engineer specifically doing research for the mining industry. Mr. Nyareli obtained his Masters degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

In the mining industry, most of the underground injuries and fatalities are due to rock falls (i.e. fall of hanging wall/roof). The method that has been used for many years in the mines when determining the integrity of the hanging wall is to tap the hanging wall with a sounding bar and listen to the sound emitted. An experienced miner can differentiate an intact/solid hanging wall from a detached/loose hanging wall by the sound that is emitted. This method is subjective. CSIR has developed a device that assists any miner in making an objective decision when determining the integrity of the hanging wall. A trained neural network model is embedded into the device. The device then records the sound emitted when a hanging wall is tapped. The sound is then preprocessed before being input into a trained neural network model and the trained model classifies the hanging wall as either intact or detached.

Scott Perry - Medical Diagnostics

Scott Perry is the Director of Medical Informatics at MedSolutions, a National Radiology Benefits Management (RBM) company. MedSolutions provides authorization for radiology services (e.g. MRI, CT, etc.) for insurance companies serving over 25 million client members across the United States. Mr. Perry attended East Tennessee State University where he obtained his B.S. in Computer Science.

Mr. Perry has been using NeuroSolutions (Developers) along with the Custom Solution Wizard (Developers) for nearly 4-years. In using these products, Mr. Perry has integrated NeuroSolutions neural networks using the Custom Solution Wizard DLL's into MedSolutions proprietary software in helping to determine whether to approve or further review authorization for radiological services. MedSolutions software currently contains 40 neural network classification models, each used to correspond to a related radiological service (e.g. MRI) and specific body part (e.g. Abdomen). They are in the process of adding another 60 neural network models to cover other authorization services they offer at MedSolutions.

Kate Geschwind - Forecasting Wind Farm Production

Kate Geschwind is a 10th grade student at Mayo High School in Rochester, Minnesota. She recently participated in the 2011 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in San Jose, California with thousands of participants from around the world. Kate placed third in the Mathematics category and received two honorable mentions from different mathematical societies for her project on "Developing Analytical Approaches to Forecast Wind Farm Production: Phase II".

Miss Geschwind has been only using NeuroSolutions and NeuroSolutions for Excel for the last 6 to 8-months to build on her 2010 science fair project that analyzed historical hourly output data of a Minnesota wind farm using only regression analysis. That project earned her several awards including an all expenses paid trip to attend the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. The 2011 project moved from an analytical approach to actually predicting the output and also introduces the use of neural networks for the model development process to determine if they can outperform regression-based models. In addition, this year's project applies the developed forecasting approach to multiple wind turbine farms in Minnesota, Oklahoma and Vermont.
